  • Preventative Maintenance – A good reason to buy new shocks

Shocks should be changed every 60,000 miles. Every manufacturer will tell you that along with all the Monroe save the squirrels commercials you might hear on the radio. The part of the information you are not told is how hard you shocks really work and why that recommendation is made. According to the KYB knowledge center you shock will move up and down between 1,500 and 1,900 times per mile.

At the low end of the range over the period of 60,000 miles your shock would have went through 90,000,000 cycles. The last thing you want to do is to go out on the trail and break a shock, it will leave you limping home and depending on how much wheel well you have it could also possibly damage your tire. Go home and let your significant other know you need to purchase your new shocks today so you are not left stranded on the trail or causing damage to your off-road tires that cost over $200 apiece. That is a significant risk to take which is why it is best to replace the shocks on a regular basis.

We have an excellent blog post of choosing the right shocks and it is well worth a read as it discusses the difference between Hydro and Nitro Shocks

Do your research and if you find you have questions just shoot us an email or a phone call and we can discuss your needs and make a recommendation based upon what will work best for your situation. Not everyone has to have the best shocks on the market because we all use our trucks differently. Let us help you make that tough decision and if you are local we can set up an appointment with one of our installers to get you taken care of.
